Forgetfulness? Not Anymore!

There were a few interesting things that happened with mommyhood. One was the fact that I lost a ton of hair. It just fell out, normally when I brushed my hair, but when we were cleaning, we’d see mounds of it all by my chair. (In a way, I’m glad a cleaning lady in an office never had to see that.) I was told by someone that it was a result of breastfeeding. Wrong! I found out that it’s actually hormonal, which is a nice thing, since the hair loss problem has been resolved. About 6 weeks ago, I noticed that the hair loss disappeared, and now I’m losing normal amounts. 🙂

Similarly, as I reported a little while ago, productivity has returned. I’ve been working crazy hours while still being a full time mommy. I hold my son in my arms while I type, often with one hand (it’s really hard to use two hands when they get this big, but it’s also one of the slowest things and I hate it!. Plus, I still have pregnancy weight to lose and then some, making typing even more difficult!). In any event, I realize that this actually corresponds to my lessened memory loss. Yes, I had the worst memory ever, forgetting things all the time. I’d put things down and 5 seconds later have no idea where they went. Lately, I’ve been keeping track of my tasks via Remember the Milk, which I have to say is awesome, especially with its Gmail plugin. But I also realized that I’m just getting things done and feeling great about it, even being able to give myself some “relaxation” (which isn’t really that, since it normally happens at the same time as the baby’s feeding time) by watching some TV. And I do try to keep up with TV shows.

It’s a nice feeling to be back on track. I’m not 100% there yet, but it’s totally getting better. I think the high point will be when David starts eating solids, which should happen this weekend after I get the go-ahead from his pediatrician after his 6-month checkup. He’s been craving more to eat, and we’ve been giving him 32oz a day, so it’s really a good time to start filling him up more.

In other David news, he starts to laugh a bit when he gets tickled. It’s so cute. No crawling has happened yet, and inchworming still commences. He is still enjoying making artwork out of spit-up. He still loves standing but I love how he has no idea what he’s doing. I don’t foresee him holding himself up standing anytime soon either, but that’d be fun!

I also used to put him in the baby swing for awhile without actually strapping him in. I’d be right here and it’d be for a second, but he is strong and has learned to sit up and not using the back of the swing to support himself. It’s actually really cute, since normally he does this quietly and doesn’t seem to bother anyone, but then I’ll look down and see his head 9 inches away from the back of the swing and I’m thinking “whoa.”

I cannot wait to put him in a high chair! This weekend, baby! Woohoo!

  1. Make the most of the time you can have him on your lap while typing – get mine anywhere near the PC now and he just bashes at the keyboard merrily. We now have to have the PC hidden in a lockable cupboard, as Robert has a habit of discovering mysterious keyboard shortcuts that we can never figure out how to undo!

  2. Henry, check out Babysmash – it’s a great app for kids like Robert. 🙂 I use it on David when he’s a little fussy and he likes to participate.
