Crawls with his Elbows.

In September, I blogged about babies being born left and right. It’s December and I’ve heard of about the same number of newborns arrive in the last few weeks alone. It’s incredible. Of course, I only know a subset of families in the world, but wow, the second wave has mostly consisted of seconds — for example, my college friend Beth has hit number two as has my high school friend Sara.

In my neck of the woods, David is starting to crawl, but not normally. He pulls his body forward with the aid of his elbows. Is this normal? There aren’t many Google results on it, but there are two or three videos of baby boys crawling with their elbows. He’s pretty content and can go fast on his elbows, so I wonder if he’ll ever crawl the normal way. How many of you had kids who crawled with their elbows?

My friend’s kid is two weeks older and already is sitting up and has bottom teeth. David sits up (but with a lot of assistance, and then he falls over) and has no teeth or any signs of them. He’s eating solids though, mostly jarred, but I’ve been trying broken bits of apples and puffs, which he doesn’t like very much, to be frank. I want him to be less dependent on us — it’d be great if David can actually hold his bottle (he is so spoiled!) — but he’s riding the wave while he can.

He’s still fun to play with, that’s for sure, but I wish he was more self-sufficient. Can it be taught? 😉

  1. Oh good, I guess there’s nothing to worry about then. How did Audrey figure out that she can actually crawl normally? I’ve been trying to teach David but he flops back on his belly (and babies have no idea what we adults are doing anyway) 🙂 We even tried illustrating it for him, but sheesh, my knees hurt real quick!

  2. This is such a normal pre-crawl thing for little ones 🙂 Aidan did this and we would “sing” the Mission Impossible theme as he did it, lol.
