We went to shul for the first time this Shabbos with the baby who I wore on my chest the whole time.
I had Sarah sitting next to me as well. She took one of the prayer books that had transliteration to help those who are just learning to read Hebrew understand what they are reading.
Somehow, Sarah found herself on the page with the Alef Bet, the Hebrew alphabet. She didn’t know what she was looking at, but we walked through the Hebrew letters, with me telling her each letter and her repeating each after me.
After that was done, Sarah started singing the English alphabet song, as if she completely understood the correlation. I hadn’t made the connection to her. I simply showed her what each letter was. I didn’t even use the word “letter.”
The fact that Sarah independently understood this to be an alphabet really amazed me.

Today, Sarah walked into the room with the TV on. A record player was being shown on the show I was watching, and I immediately told Sarah, “look, a record player!”
Sarah stared intently at the record player for all of two seconds, and then responded as a two year old would: “scary!”
Yep, I agree.

By the way, Sarah is handling her sister very well. She walks up to Alana and shouts, “This is my sister baby!”
