I’m considering sending David to another camp this summer, and there aren’t many Jews there. It’s similar to a camp I went to when I was 9 years old where you choose a certain “discipline” to pursue (I chose things like rocketry and computers; for David, I’m doing magic and Lego and similar topics he’s fairly fascinated with).
The camp brochure has a picture of all the kids who attended the camp in the summer of 2015. You can see four boys (maybe even more) wearing yarmulkes. I told David this and showed him the photo, as it was great to see these children openly wearing their yarmulkes at camp! But David responded to me with, “Well, there are some non Jews who wear yarmulkes. Like if you look on TV, there’s a non Jewish guy who wears a yarmulke.”
“No, David, that’s the Pope. He doesn’t count.”
“Oh.”
