On Tuesday, we weighed the baby on one of our purchases that probably didn’t make sense, the One Step Ahead Digital Baby Scale. He weighed 12.34 lbs (no, this thing doesn’t weigh in ounces). We figured that’s as good a milestone as any so we’re celebrating here. 🙂
But it was a wasted purchase, because who really needs to weigh their kid so often? I guess some parents would be more cautious given that their kid may not necessarily be eating so well, but I personally consider it an impulse buy. There are far more important purchases that I should work on instead for baby care.
In other news, David is 3 months old today. Mommy and Daddy are super happy. He’s starting to really make eye contact, smile, and even laugh (or so I’m convinced that’s the noise he makes when he smiles sometimes). On the other hand, I’m still feeling like my baby eats all the time, since I have no time to work while I’m feeding the baby. Do solids solve this problem?
As for me, I’m still losing my baby weight. Considering that I’m a work at home mom who finds that there’s ALWAYS something to do via the Internet, I don’t go out and I don’t walk. At all. So this baby weight loss program is all me and a whole lot of discipline. So far, my typical meals consist of the following and NOTHING else:
- Breakfast: honey nut cheerios and skim milk
- Snack: VitaTops snacks
- Lunch: English Muffin with a soy veggie burger topped with American cheese
- Snack: Popcorn or crackers
- Dinner: Another English muffin or something else. I haven’t really figured out dinner yet. (One night, I had hot dogs, which didn’t do much for weight loss. Another night, I had corn on the cob which isn’t a meal. And another night, I had an English muffin with margarine and grape jelly. See?)
Since I gained a mountain load of weight during pregnancy, I’m seeing about 1 lb weight loss per day by strictly adhering to this, doing no physical exertion, and pumping about 4-6 times per day. I’m not sure the pumping has anything to do with it; I think any person with a lot of discipline and no desire to snack at all (which is super hard for me, I’ll admit) can succeed.
Then again, it’s only been a week. I’m hoping I can keep at this for another 2.5 months at the rate I’m on — that’s my weight loss goal. 😉
I’m sorry to tell you that the ‘baby is always eating’ thing only gets worse! When they start solids, everything solid they eat is IN ADDITION to the billions of nursing/formula feedings they are already getting. Add in the preparing of the solids, cleaning of the utensils, etc etc and you can delete about 14 hrs a week from your schedule. ; ) But, it does get better when they can feed themselves (My son, #2, pretty much feeds himself but needs help with some things.)
They still eat all the time, but it is much easier since they are doing it while you do something else! 🙂 I think the eating at every hash mark on the clock part lasts the rest of life…
