David is not crawling yet, but he’s getting quite close. He can prop his weight on hands and knees – he can move his hands, but he hasn’t figured out what to do with his knees. He maneuvers himself with hands only at this time and drags his feet with him.
He’s starting to get curious at everything that he CAN’T play with. I work in an office and his play space is surrounded by equipment, fans, boxes, etc. I bought those foam tiles and had the bag of it sitting on top of a box. Somehow, when I was on a client call yesterday, he pulled the container down and it was on top of him. I still have no idea how he even accomplished this, and it’s quite silly. He’s a silly boy.
I have a computer, a lamp, and a fan against the wall, and there’s a little gap between all of these items. Somehow he’s finding himself in there too. I guess kids’ toys get boring over time.
I’m seriously dreading when he begins to crawl. I can’t imagine that this will be good…. I’ll have to keep him out of EVERYTHING!
(This picture was taken on September 27th when he couldn’t crawl or shimmy around like he does now.)
Kids start to love everything but their toys when there is a chance for mischief. 😉
This is when you do a pack-n-play. Or you can do a baby yard http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266978 …I have one of those. It allows baby to move around, have plenty of toys, etc, but stay out of the danger of falling / spinning fans, etc.
I know space is limited, but you may be more limited with how much you have to try and block everything off vs. getting a play yard type thing.
When Scarlet was crawling all around but whiny, I would put her in the yard with a sippy cup, blanket, just a couple toys, and turn on music or the TV on low and she’d learn a little self-soothing, and play on her own and be in a better mood. One time I guess she was just worn out because she grabbed a pillow, blanket, and her cup of water and motioned to go in the gate. I put her in w/her stuff and she snuggled up to take a nap, hahaha. You never know what your kids will like for sure, but this kept my kids away from electrocution and falling objects 😉
PS I forgot to say…empty water bottles are a very fun toy for kiddos. Just make sure the cap is on super tight, or that you just take the cap off and throw it away before giving the bottle to him. 🙂
He likes water bottles that actually have water in them. He likes licking them!
hahaha my daughter is that way now, especially if the bottle is cold.
