I’m not sure what this means, be it an understanding of big TV shows with lots of colors or an understanding of what Muppets are talking about, but David can tell the difference between regular TV (for adults) and TV for kids. Every so often, I’ll sit down and watch TV, and he has no interest in watching. Instead, he’ll climb on me just to steal the remote control or do something else to occupy his time.
Lately, I’ve opted to keep him busy by turning on the TV on our TiVo’d Sesame Streets. He actually sits down on the floor and watches, and often for long periods of time! He will never do this for adult television.
Again, I’m not sure if this is a basic understanding kids have with more colorful picture, but I suspect that has something to do with it, since David hasn’t grasped language enough to understand what they’re actually saying on TV. (He still only says “byebye” and the occasional “hi,” and he understands, for the most part, that byebye means we’re trying to get rid of something — though sometimes he just says byebye out of the blue and we don’t know why). I actually remember watching TV during my own childhood and telling myself that I’ll never appreciate those “boring” adult TV shows. I guess things eventually change. 🙂
It’s nice to know I can keep him engaged. 🙂
