The little kid has blossomed in the past few months. He’s finally walking, and thankfully, he started at an age where babyproofing is not entirely necessary. I think he possesses an understanding of most things so he knows not to touch things. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t listen, like, for example, with the television, which he now has an acute understanding that if he says “T.B” and turns on the TV “on/off” button, it will probably turn on (unless it already is on).
His first piece of art was for his father’s birthday last month, where I finally took out the Crayola crayons I literally had in storage for at LEAST 6 years; I’ve had them in an unopen box since before I got married, kind of saving them for a moment like this. These were actually a bonus four crayons that weren’t in the box of 64, so I am practicing with a small batch at first. He colored for a bit, and that was that. For our annual holiday gifts, he stole a pen of mine and started drawing on our doorman’s envelope (thankfully the doorman liked it and called it “art”). I decided again to give him crayons just a few minutes ago, anxiously awaiting the discovery of what he’s about to do.
To be honest, he hasn’t figured it out. He drew for a bit, but he’s content instead to hold the four crayons in his hands and walk around the room. I got a few little scribbles out of him, but the truth of the matter is that he can’t figure out how to hold the crayons. It’s funny. And cute. I’ve been trying to teach him how to hold the crayons but he’s not being responsive. And I still think he’s a righty.
As of the last paragraph, he figured out that there’s a little compartment in the Leapfrog Learn & Groove Musical Table that he can hide the crayons in. I guess I’ll have to revisit this topic in a few months…
As for the potty, I’ve decided to start early. He’s 19 months old but seems to be aware of his diaper, though he occasionally says “doody” when he must’ve peed. We bought him a potty but nothing is really happening on that front. I’ve tried putting him down but he likes to sit there and look around while saying “potty” and “doody” repeatedly. Altogether too cute, and I’m still enjoying the experience. I’m definitely NOT pressuring him nor am I rushing him, but I think he wants to do it. I also think he doesn’t understand what he wants.
Meanwhile, the little naughty pants just ran out of the room armed with four crayons, so I need to figure out what he’s going to color on next. Back later. 🙂
Update 7 minutes later: I just discovered that all 4 crayons have been lodged behind our air conditioner. I will have to wait for the repairman to come tomorrow; I actually have spent the last 5 minutes trying to figure out where they went!
