You know how babies are cute but boring for the first 14 months of their lives? Well, that was Sarah. Around 14 months old, Sarah decided to show us she had a personality. She was cute and only got cuter. She started pulling herself up at 15 months, which is way late, and it’s why we are exploring Early Intervention and ways to give her physical therapy. After all, she’ll be 20 months old tomorrow and she doesn’t stand without an aid (no freestanding for my baby) and does not want to walk.
Sarah’s last 3 weeks have been permeated by cuteness all around in the form of verbal cues and phrases. (It’s about time I get to be called “mommy!” That started a bit earlier, though.)
This morning, Sarah was talking to the animals in a book she was reading. She kept saying to the animals “byebye see you!”
This afternoon, Sarah did something very weird and worth noting, though hopefully nothing to worry about. She had been fed peas and bananas. For some reason, she did not want to swallow the peas. She was taken out of the kitchen to play in the living room and the babysitter observed her drooling, only to see that the peas were still in her mouth. We brought her back to the kitchen and Sarah started fussing, absolutely refusing to eat the peas. Even Daddy had to go in there and tell her to chew, but she didn’t want to. (I don’t understand why; if her issue was taste, it would’ve gone away right then and there.) She kept crying but continued drooling with the peas by the front of her mouth. It was a 10 minute long ordeal, if not longer. In the end, I gave her a little sip of Snapple pink lemonade. She took the drink and swallowed only the liquid, leaving the peas behind. But then I think she remembered the peas were there and it didn’t feel right, and she immediately, without issue, ate the peas. Naturally, we sort of scolded her at that point, and she responded by giggling. That’s my girl.
Tonight, we are going to Tot Shabbat at the shul, which is a dinner event for families. The last time we went there (about a month ago), Sarah was super cute and danced (and even tried to sing) like there was no tomorrow during the zmirot. The Rabbi walked up to both parents separately after the fact and made a note of telling us that he gets a kick out of her and that “she’s something else.”
…and that was the reason why I signed her up to a Mommy and Me music class starting on January 28th.
