Self-Soothing.

Sarah has been wanting not to go to bed when it’s bedtime. Sometimes we let her cry it out, sometimes we take her for a bit, watch TV with her on our laps, and then put her back to bed (she’s usually okay after that). It doesn’t always happen, fortunately, but on those days that it does, it’s helpful to have backup solutions and she’s pretty good at them.

We have a mobile over her crib but honestly barely used it. (For David, we used it all the time!) Meanwhile, when Sarah wakes up, she occasionally is excited to show me what’s in her crib, from her Huggie to her mobile (which she calls “music!”) Sometimes, she’ll be in the crib and turn on the music herself, but, that too, is rare.

In any event, last night, Sarah wasn’t a happy camper. We took her out and then put her back in, and she was not too keen on just going to sleep. After we closed her door, she stood up, put on her mobile, and went to sleep without any further issues.

By the way, she kind of isn’t walking anymore. Today, we had to force her. She’ll do it only if you make her.
