The Four Smells I Love About Motherhood

A few weeks ago, I tweeted about the wonderful smell of newborns. I realize that I love smelling my little David Jacob. Someone burst my bubble and told me why exactly that was the case — and well, he’s right. I’d kind of hoped that newborns came out of the womb smelling nice and flowery (and over time, it’d become obvious that humans just develop a stinky smell that needs to be solved by deodorant and various other perfume type scents) — but um, yeah, I was pretty wrong there. πŸ˜‰

Then I realized that I really like the smell of baby stuff, and not just Dreft.

Here are my four favorite baby smells thus far. I suppose there’s still opportunity for me to try other things. πŸ˜‰

1. Dreft Laundry Detergent: If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d be using it more often on just about everything! This stuff rocks.

2. Johnson’s Head to Toe Body Wash. I love giving him a bath since I can smell the body wash in his hair after all is done. The scent is subtle and gentle.

3. Johnson’s Bedtime Lotion. Like the body wash, I use the lotion usually right before he’s going to bed (or after a bath). I think he’s more annoyed at me applying the lotion than I am since it’s initially cold until it’s rubbed in, but I really love smelling it!

4. A+D Ointment: Taking the cue from a nurse, I started putting A+D on about once or twice a day to prevent against diaper rash. I’ve tried the generic A+D and it was pretty bad. The real A+D is the best way to go.

What are your favorite smells of motherhood? (And how long does it last, anyway?)

  1. Johnson’s Head to Toe Body Wash is my absolute favorite baby smell!!! πŸ™‚

For diaper rash cream, we use Burt’s Bees… it’s got a great smell, and it’s all natural.

  2. Tamar Weinberg

I really like Burt’s Bees stuff. I should look into these other products.

Sometimes I wish the web had a “scratch ‘n sniff” button. I want to try these now!
