Smarts and Sillies.

David continues to grow everyday. He is now counting to 12. He likes to count to six and then goes “yay!” I ask him, “how many raisins do you have?” He understands the question but doesn’t answer by actually carefully counting. He always has to count six items. Or four. And he’ll skip one or two while counting, merely pointing at them to show us that he gets the idea, just not 100% fully yet.

Today he pooped in the potty! I’ve been trying to get him to do it for about 2-3 months now. He told me “doody” and I said “on the potty?” and he didn’t hesitate to say yes. (Normally he gets a little upset when I suggest the potty and starts to whine when I put him there.) I took off his pants and diaper and plopped him on the baby potty. He told me to take off his shirt too (he even tried to make me remove his socks) and I walked away to handle some issues in the other room. When I came back about 7 minutes later, he was sitting like a good boy and there was a poopy in the potty! Yay! I then gave him chocolate and now he wants chocolate all the time. Oops.

He has a huge vocabulary. He knows what “bra” and “panties” are. I don’t even know HOW! And last night, the chair was rocking and he said “rock!” Then I stopped the chair and he said “stop!” Today, we watched “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and he knew when the car started flying and explicitly pointed it out with “fly!”. It’s incredible to see exactly how much he’s absorbed these past 23 months and 8 days. Not to mention that he was still born 6 weeks early, so I feel he’s way ahead of kids his age.

He knows when he burps (and says he makes a burp) but sometimes thinks that he just hiccuped. Not quite the same thing, but we’re getting there. He knows the difference between planes, trains, automobiles, and of course, cars.

He still has those idiosyncrasies though: he’s super organized. He’ll put his Yo! Gabba Gabba characters and associate them with the correct toy. He makes sure that if there’s a toy that requires color coordination that he coordinates properly (i.e. we have a this ball game and he makes sure the correctly-colored ball goes in the correct spot). He likes to turn the TV off when we don’t necessarily want him to, such as when we collectively leave the room (when the TV is on pause) because we need to attend to his personal needs (like bedtime or bathtime, for example). He doesn’t like crumbs and often just wants to throw them in the garbage, even if they just fell off food he was just eating. He must eat everything with a fork. Even matzah. Or bread. We’re trying to explain to him that forks are for specific foods, not everything. It’s a slow and arduous process.

I still can’t believe how much he’s grown these past few months. Every day with this little guy is so much fun.
